The book Machina Ratiocinatrix: En busca del razonamiento automático (Machina Ratiocinatrix: In Search of Automated Reasoning), published in 1993, stands as the crowning achievement of Venezuelan professor and researcher Alberto Castillo Vicci. It is a unique work within the Venezuelan body of literature on artificial intelligence, distinguished not only by its early publication date but also by the intellectual challenge it poses. The book presents a historical and epistemological reconstruction of the quest to mechanize human thought, tracing a continuous line from Leibniz’s logical calculator to contemporary architectures of symbolic computation and probabilistic logic; it ultimately leads to philosophical questions regarding whether a machine can think, as well as the ethical, technological, economic, and cultural implications of artificial intelligence. The work represents an early approach to the problem of automated reasoning and highlights a central theme in the author's thought: understanding the extent to which machines can replicate or support processes traditionally associated with human intelligenceDownloads
