The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and the contemporary climate crisis converge in a scenario that demands reconciling the transformative potential of smart technologies with the responsible management of their environmental footprint. In this context, the amendments introduced in 2024 by ISO and IAF to clauses 4.1 and 4.2 of various management system standards explicitly incorporate consideration of climate change into the analysis of organizational context and stakeholder needs. This approach reinforces the cross-cutting nature of the phenomenon, the effects of which can manifest in operational continuity, technological infrastructure, energy stability, occupational health and safety, and contingency management. The convergence of AI and climate change thus presents a dual responsibility: using AI to contribute to sustainability while simultaneously managing the environmental impacts arising from its use. ISO standards provide a framework for integrating this perspective into risk management, planning, performance, and continuous improvement, fostering organizations that are more resilient, responsible, and sustainable.
