Abstract

Waste generation has become a global problem due to population growth and industrial, economic, and social development; therefore, it is an area of significant attention to minimize environmental impact and the risk of disease in the population. The objective of this paper is to present an analysis of the main research trends in waste management using artificial intelligence through the evolution of publications in specialized journals and conferences in the area. Documentary research, combined with bibliometric and content analysis techniques, was used to examine the information obtained from 2015 to 2024. The Lens.org database was used as the primary source of information, and through the use of keywords and different search strategies, relevant information was retrieved for the indicated period. The main results show that the international scientific community is greatly interested in conducting research related to improving waste management using artificial intelligence, and China is one of the leading countries applying these tools to waste management. Wastewater, solid waste, construction waste, plastics, and energy generation are the main wastes treated with artificial intelligence.
