Actividad antimicrobiana de productos naturales contra Helicobacter pylori

Desde el hallazgo e identificación de Helicobacter pylori en material de tejido gástrico por Marshall y Warrent en 1983, nuestro conocimiento sobre esta infección ha evolucionado notablemente. Se acepta al momento actual, su rol dentro de la multifactoriedad de la patología ulcero péptica gastroduodenal y el adenocarcinoma gástrico. En la actualidad, numerosas terapias a base de antibióticos están disponibles, Sin embargo, estas terapias tienen varios problemas, incluyendo la aparición de resistencia y los efectos adversos asociados a los antibióticos, el riesgo de re-infección y el alto costo de dicho tratamiento. Este trabajo resume y analiza los estudios recientes más relevantes de plantas con actividad anti Helicobacter pylori. Las especies vegetales se presentan como una fuente muy diversa para la obtención de compuestos activos con potencial bactericida, así como para el desarrollo de nuevas terapias diseñadas para el control de H pylori.
