Abstract

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine and is classified as stress urinary incontinence, urge urinary incontinence and mixed incontinence. Currently HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) technology is used to treat urinary incontinence. A longitudinal descriptive study was conducted in 121 patients who consulted for presenting stress urinary incontinence and/or voiding urgency between November 2019 and December 2023. The best results were achieved in younger patients with the lowest response in patients older than 61 years. Maintenance of HIFU efficacy reached an average of 3 and a half years. Overall satisfaction was around 97%. The predominant side effect was pain at the moment of penetration of the cartridge in the vaginal introitus. In conclusion, HIFU represents a safe, fast and successful alternative in the treatment of mild to moderate urinary incontinence symptoms.
