Submission Preparation Checklist

Author Guidelines
Publicaciones en Ciencias y Tecnología is an open access scientific research journal, published in continuous mode with two annual editions. It´s attached to the Dean of Science and Technology at the Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado (UCLA), Venezuela. It publishes original and unpublished scientific papers, written in Spanish or English, in the areas of exact sciences, earth sciences, and engineering.
Thematic areas of publication in the Journal
Each work received in this medium of scientific dissemination must be within the thematic scope of the journal. Below are the areas of dissemination of the journal within two catalogs areas of science and technology:
- According to the UNESCO Nomenclature for the fields of Science and Technology: 11-Logic, 12-Mathematics, 21-Astronomy and Astrophysics, 22-Physics, 23-Chemistry, 25-Earth and Space Sciences and 33- Technological Sciences.
- According to the CAPES Table of Knowledge areas of the Brazilian Ministry of Education:
- Exact and earth sciences: mathematics, probability and statistics, computer science, astronomy, physics, chemistry, geosciences.
- Engineering: sanitary, transportation, mining, materials and metallurgical, chemical, nuclear, mechanical, production, naval and oceanic, aerospace, electrical.
About the periods of reception and evaluation of papers in the journal
Throughout the year, job applications are received, however, due to the difficulty of carrying out the arbitration at the end of the year, jobs are received until December 15, and the reception process begins on the following January 5. If papers are received during this period, they will be processed as of January 5. Please consider these dates for job applications.
Estimated journal times
- Reception: revision of standards and thematic relevance: 2 to 3 weeks, approximately.
- Evaluation of articles: 2 to 5 months, approximately, from the date of receipt.
- Publication of accepted articles: Within a period of one month from the date of acceptance of the article.
- The journal is published continuously, with two issues per year.
General considerations for authors regarding the submission of papers to the journal
- The theme of the work must be within the areas of dissemination of the journal.
- Adapt the manuscript to the standards for its preparation, according to the type of manuscript, and follow the procedure for submission, described below.
- Only original and unpublished works are accepted and published. The works must not be published or simultaneously postulated for publication in other journals or editorial entities.
- The acceptance and publication of the work is carried out without any charge for the authors, likewise, the download of the digital version on the website is completely free and without restrictions, immediately after publication.
- The journal applies the evaluation of works under the Double Blind modality. That is, the reviewers do not know the authorship of the articles they evaluate, nor do the authors know the names of the designated referees. Files submitted for review must be anonymous. Please remove authorship data both in the document content and in the file properties. The evaluators review the work considering the criteria of originality, relevance, timeliness, contributions, and scientific rigor. For more information review the peer review process.
- When submitting the manuscript application to the journal, the authors must attach two (2) forms, whose data will be included in the article at the time of publication:

- Manuscript and authors data form: data on the thematic classification of the paper as well as the type of contribution. Regarding each author, it is mandatory to complete the following identification data: 1) Names and surnames: avoid the use of initials; 2) Institutional affiliation: avoid the use of acronyms, name of the institution, faculty and department of affiliation; country, state and city; 3) URL to your ORCID record, and 4) Mention at least one email, preferably institutional.
- Assignment letter, declaration and application of the paper where :
- the authors declare the originality and non-previous publication of the manuscript.
- the authors give the journal the right to publish and disseminate the work once it has been approved.
- the authors declare the Acknowledgments, if any.
- the authors declare the sources of financing: identify and mention the role of the institution(s) that provided the financial support for the research. If the article was made without external funding, this should be noted.
- the authors declare the intellectual contribution of each author regarding the different phases of the elaboration of the manuscript. For more information consult this document.
- the authors declare if there is a conflict of interest. The authors must indicate if there are financial or personal relationships with third parties that compromise the results of the work presented. Otherwise, they will declare the non-existence of conflicts. For more information on this, you can review this document.
Rights and responsibilities of the authors
- Intellectual property always belongs to the authors of the article, under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International distribution license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
- Authors may publish the final approved version of their work on the internet or any other medium, after it has been published in this journal.
- The authors have the right to use their articles for any purpose as long as it is done for non-profit.
- Your names, data and email addresses received in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes stated in it and will not be provided to third parties for other purposes.
- The opinions expressed by the authors do not necessarily reflect the position of the publisher of the publication or of UCLA. The journal authorizes the total or partial reproduction of the published texts, as long as the authors are acknowledged, this journal is cited with full editorial data.
- It is important that the authors know the evaluation process applied to the manuscripts, as well as the code of ethics and anti-plagiarism policies declared by this journal.
- By communicating to the journal at the time of submitting their work, the authors attest that the data and statements provided to this journal about their manuscript are true, and that it has not been copied or plagiarized in whole or in part from other publications. Additionally, through said communication, the authors assign or transfer the right to the journal of the first publication of the approved version of the article. If the contrary is proven, the Editorial Board of this journal can make the decision to withdraw, reject or retract the article, depending on whether it is in the received, under evaluation, approved or published phase.
Types of manuscripts that are published
Original Research Article: Document that presents in detail the original results of completed research projects. Contains introduction, methodology, results and conclusions. Maximum extension of twenty (20) letter size pages. It is subjected to peer review, under the double-blind modality.
Review article: Document where the results of other published research on a field of science or technology are analysed, systematized and integrated, in order to account for the advances, trends or development patterns of the studies reviewed, providing a status of art on the subject, as well as future perspectives. You must submit a bibliographic review of at least 30 references, its maximum length is twenty (20) letter-size pages. It is subjected to peer review, under the double-blind modality.
It is recommended to review the work of Lluis Codina (2018). Systematized reviews for academic papers · Concepts, phases and bibliography.
Technical Note: Document that presents the results obtained from the application of specific techniques, methods or procedures that are widely known and/or used in a particular situation or case study. Includes an annotated review of the literature on analogous studies. Its length should not exceed twenty (20) letter-size pages. Its structure is the same as an original research paper. It is subjected to peer review, under the double-blind modality.
Scientific Essay: Manuscript that describes or analyzes a fact, phenomenon, work or situation, issuing a balanced judgment, supported by a proper review of the literature. Its maximum length is twenty (20) letter-size pages. It is subjected to peer review, under the double-blind modality.
Review: Document that describes upcoming or recent scientific events, books, university academic programs, research groups or relevant scientific facts, related to the exact sciences, computing, engineering or technological sciences. This type of work is not submitted to arbitration by external peers, it is reviewed and approved by the Editorial Committee. Its length is up to 20 letter-size pages.
Letters to the Editor: Document that expresses critical, analytical or interpretive positions on the documents published in the journal, and constitutes an important contribution to the discussion of the subject by the reference scientific community. Length of up to five (5) letter size pages.
Procedure for submitting manuscripts to the journal
- Send an email to revistapcyt@ucla.edu.ve and revistapcyt@gmail.com.
- The scientific manuscript must be under the blind paper modality, that is, it must not contain the identification of the authors, nor their affiliation data, for which it is appreciated not to include any information in the manuscript.
- The information about the authors is recorded in the file designed for this purpose.
- The paper must contain the figures, tables, photographs and equations where they correspond.
- The following files must be attached to the job application email sent by the authors to the journal:

- File in .doc, .docx, or .odt format, as well as the respective PDF. If the paper was done using Latex, please send the .tex, .bib, figures and the respective PDF files.

Guidelines for the preparation of the manuscript
Manuscript preparation
- Language of the manuscript development: Spanish or English.
- Number of pages: maximum 20 letter-size pages, including tables, figures and references. Text to a column.
- Source: times new roman, 12.
- Line spacing: single spaced.
- Margins: 2.5 cm on each side.
- Manuscript title: maximum 20 words, bold, centered. It must be representative of the content and show the main contribution of the work. It must be submitted in Spanish and English.
- Abstract: use a maximum of 200 words. It must contain a brief justification or importance of the work, general objective of the research, methodology (methods, techniques) used, main results, conclusions or scientific contributions of the work. The work must include two summaries, one in Spanish and one in English. It should not include special symbols, nor references to bibliography.
- Keywords: Between 3 to 6 words, written in lowercase (unless they are well-known acronyms such as ISO), separated by semicolons (;), and arranged alphabetically. Review the UNESCO Thesaurus for the selection of such descriptors. They must be presented in Spanish and English.
- Figures and tables: considering the total number of figures and tables, these should not occupy more than 50% of the work. Each figure and table must be numbered and referenced at least once in the text of the work, indicating its number.
- Footnotes are not accepted.
General structure of the manuscript
In general, the manuscript is expected to follow the IMRD structure: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion of results, Conclusions.

NOTE:
At the time of layout of the final version of the manuscript for publication:
- The final sections are incorporated into the article: Acknowledgments, Source of financing, Intellectual contribution of the authors and the Declaration of no conflict of interest. Please do not add these sections in the text of the manuscript submitted in the application. This information is taken from the two forms attached to the manuscript application email sent by the authors.
- If necessary, authors will be asked to provide Figures and/or photographs in jpg or png files, with better resolution so that they are legible and clear in the final manuscript. If requested, please send them identified as Figure1.jpg, Figure2.jpg, etc.
TABLES
Please do not use colors in the tables, unless strictly necessary. Rows are separated by lines. The tables are identified at the top with increasing Arabic numerals, preceded by the word Table in bold, centered. Example: Table 1. Profiles.
In no case will the font of letters used within the table be less than 9. When the table does not end on one page, place Table 1 (continued) on the next page. The source of the information is located at the bottom of it, centered. Each box must be referenced at least once in the text. Examples: ...as shown in Table 1. ...see Table 4.
FIGURES
You can use colors in the figure. The content of the figure must be clear and legible. They are identified with increasing Arabic numerals at the bottom of the figure, specifying the Arabic number preceded by the word Figure in bold, followed by its name, centered. Example: Figure 1: Frequency distribution by sex.
Each figure must be referenced at least once in the text. Examples: …as shown in Figure 1, see Figure 4.
If it is a statistical graph, please identify the axes and place the respective units of measurement. Use shades of colors or designs that allow to differentiate bars or portions in the graph. Do not include the title within the graph, it must be placed in the respective description at the bottom of the figure. The text inside the figure must be written in the same language as the length of the article.
EQUATIONS
They must be legible. They can be incorporated within a paragraph or displayed separately. In the latter case, they must be centered and identified on the right using increasing Arabic numerals enclosed in parentheses, and must also be referenced in the text according to their number. Example:

CITATIONS

Indicate in the text of the paper the number of the reference enclosed in square brackets. Please cite and reference all data, program codes, and other materials that were used or generated in the research. All the sources used in the citations contained in the work must be referenced at the end of the work.
Examples:
…and less than the load capacity available the soil [9].
…also is adjusted to real soil conditions [7],[9].
The techniques used are the two-step method [10] and the one-step method described by Zhu [11].
REFERENCES
Use the IEEE Style standard "Thematic guide on bibliographic citations UC3M: IEEE"
References should be listed with numerical labels, in order of citation in the work. All references must be cited in the content of the work.
It should not be written "Retrieved from", "Internet", "Online", "Available at", "Consulted on 01/10/2020", etc.
Please cite and reference all data, program codes, and other materials that were used or generated in the research. Preferably reference sources that can be accessed on the web in whole or in part. Avoid private or unpublished sources.
Preferably reference published content of an academic, technical, scientific nature, databases, information from recognized national or international organizations. Avoid referencing commercial sources, blogs, or websites of dubious scientific or academic reliability unless the research warrants it.
Book
Initials and Surname/s of the author, Title of the book in italics. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher, Year of publication.
Journal article
Author's initials and surname, "Title of the article in quotation marks", Abbreviated title of the journal in italics, volume (abbreviated vol.), abbreviated number (no.) pages (abbreviated pp.), Year of publication.
Article published in conference
Initials and Surnames of the author, "Title of the conference article" in Full name of the conference, City of the conference, country of the conference, year, pages (abbreviated pp.)
Thesis or degree work
Initials and last name of the author, "Title of the thesis or degree work", Type of document (doctoral thesis, master's thesis, etc.), Department, Academic institution, City, Country, Year of publication.
