Calidad de vida relacionada a la salud oral de niños y caries dental: una revisión de sus instrumentos de medición

Resumen

Introducción: La calidad de vida es un aspecto fundamental de la salud humana, pues refleja cómo las personas perciben su entorno en relación con la enfermedad y los tratamientos orientados al bienestar. La calidad de vida relacionada con la salud oral (CVRSO) es la capacidad de disfrutar y expresar emociones con confianza, sin dolor, incomodidad o enfermedad en el complejo craneofacial. La salud oral refleja condiciones psicológicas y sociales cruciales para la calidad de vida, influyendo en la autoimagen y la percepción de uno mismo. Objetivo: Exponer los instrumentos utilizados para medir la CVRSO y caries dental infantil. Metodología: La estrategia de búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos PubMed, Scopus y LILACS, de 2010 a 2024. Se emplearon los términos mesh “quality of life”, “oral health”, “children”, “validation”, “caries”, e “instruments”, de la búsqueda, se seleccionaron aquellos artículos en los que se evaluó la CVRSO y caries, en las dimensiones como: función oral, dolor, apariencia e impacto psicosocial. Conclusiones: Los instrumentos para medir la CVRSO en niños, adaptados a rangos etarios y contextos específicos, permiten evaluar de manera integral la función oral, el dolor, la apariencia y el impacto psicosocial, y, al aplicarse para medir la carga de caries y otras condiciones orales en la infancia, proporcionan una base sólida para la práctica clínica e intervenciones comunitarias o educativas.
