Factores de riesgo asociados a las caídas en la población geriátrica: una revisión del estado del arte.

Resumen

La población geriátrica se ve acompañada por el deterioro en múltiples funciones que aumentan el riesgo de caídas en la población de adultos mayores. Algunos de los factores que intervienen en dicho riesgo están relacionados con la edad, por lo que se consideran escasamente prevenibles. Otros son reconocidos como potencialmente modificables o prevenibles, tales como las enfermedades crónicas, la medicación o la calidad del cuidado por familiares o instituciones. Esta revisión discute sobre el impacto, factores de riesgo y estrategias de prevención de caídas en la población adulta mayor.
