Resumo

Coletivamente, as doenças bucais estão entre as mais prevalentes em todo o mundo e representam um grande fardo de doenças. De acordo com a Carga Global de Doenças, quase metade da população mundial sofria de deficiência devido a problemas bucais. Escovar os dentes uma vez ao dia, ou melhor ainda, duas vezes ao dia, é uma prática adequada para preservar a saúde bucal e reduzir o risco de cáries dentárias e doenças periodontais. Doenças gengivais como a gengivite, que evolui para periodontite, podem causar perda dentária se não tratada localmente, além de outras condições sistêmicas. A adesão do usuário, a disposição e as atitudes das pessoas em manter uma rotina de escovação consistente, é um fator importante nos resultados de saúde bucal. O custo é outro fator a considerar ao avaliar a eficácia das escovas de dente elétricas em comparação às escovas de dente manuais. A eficácia das escovas dentais elétricas (ECD) em comparação com as escovas dentais manuais (CDM) na manutenção da saúde bucal depende de vários fatores. Os CDEs são geralmente mais eficazes na remoção da placa bacteriana e podem ser mais fáceis para pessoas com destreza limitada. A escolha entre CDE e MDL deve considerar necessidades, preferências e custos. Os dentistas podem fornecer recomendações personalizadas com base nas necessidades e habilidades de saúde bucal de um indivíduo.
