Home care plan aimed at parents of newborns discharged from the intensive care unit

Abstract

Currently there is evidence of readmissions of infants after being discharged with various complications due to lack of knowledge about the basic care that parents should have towards them at home. The objective of this descriptive field study was to propose a care plan to be used at home, aimed at parents or representatives of infants who are discharged from the Pediatric Unit of the Dr. Pastor Oropeza Hospital. Methodology A descriptive, cross-sectional field study. The population consisted of 50 representatives, to whom a questionnaire with response options on a Likert scale, consisting of 20 items, was applied. Validation was performed by expert judgment. The data analysis was performed with the Excel program with elements of descriptive statistics. In the results, it was observed that all the respondents consider washing hands important before handling the infant, on the other hand, in terms of thermoregulation measures, all of them agreed with applying the kangaroo technique as a means of protection from temperature and environmental protection. Likewise, all agreed with the application of the vaccination scheme. Conclusion: there really is a need for a care plan for infants, observing an important interest on the part of parents in the implementation of an educational plan, which allows them to improve their skills, knowledge and eliminate fears when applying these infant care strategies once discharged from the ICU. For this reason, it is recommended that the proposal be considered by the plans and programs in the health establishment.
