The purpose of this paper was to analyze the different responses of countries to the emerging situation and reflect on the impact on the health system according to the choices made by Latin American countries. Among the main findings obtained, the aspects of health systems, public policy and public health were analyzed to later identify the difficulties of said system, the measures chosen by the nations, the strategies for vaccination and how they affected the subsequent epidemic waves with the variants of COVID-19, as well as the health services aimed at the survivors of the contagion, but they have acute or chronic sequelae. In conclusion, for the public health problems that have arisen worldwide, it is necessary to initiate a process of solution from the base of each nation, given that certain similarities and differences between the different health systems in Latin America were evidenced with respect to the health response due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
