Vol. 18 No. 1 (2025): Enero-Junio

During the 20th century, the most dramatic change in the nursing profession was its evolution into a science-based discipline that honors empiricism and reason. Although the benefits of this transformation were many, the art and soul of nursing were neglected and sometimes seem almost lost. In recent years, it has become increasingly apparent how significant this loss has been and why the sacred, artistic and spiritual side of nursing must be restored if it is to maintain its distinction and relevance as a profession. The cover of this issue contains the work “Sleeping Children” by the Russian realist painter Vasili Grigorievich Perov, created in 1870. It is a genre painting, which depicts everyday scenes from history expressed in the world of everyday life where the subject is constructed, the world of culture and society, the pre-scientific world that we rarely explore that contains a wealth of wisdom in the sacred science: Care.
